The Yali tribe lives in New Guinea - these are the most terrible cannibals of our time. A wild and incredibly dangerous group of people has twenty thousand people. Cannibalism for them is an absolutely familiar and ordinary thing, and eating their enemy is considered the highest peak of valor, because the strongest survive. The leader of a frightening tribe believes that eating human flesh is a mystical ritual, during which one can obtain extraordinary power.

Of course, the government of New Guinea is dissatisfied with such, to put it mildly, inhuman predilections of the tribe and is trying in every possible way to eradicate the tradition. The number of cases of cannibalism decreased significantly after the Yali adopted Christianity, but it did not work out completely. Experienced warriors of the tribe will easily share with you recipes for "exotic" cooking. It is believed that the most delicious dishes from the buttocks of the enemy, a real delicacy! Surprisingly, the Yali sincerely believe that in this way they join the spiritual.

Recently, an interesting trend in the faith of the tribe has been that since Christ appeared in their lives, the Yalis refused to eat white people. If you have a light skin color, you can safely visit this hospitable place. Since ancient times of colonization, the everyday life of the people has not changed at all. They still walk almost naked, covering "interesting" places with leaves.

Yali are very fond of jewelry, especially beads. They are made mainly from shells. The most attractive ladies can be easily distinguished from others, they have no front teeth, they are knocked out intentionally. Such a concept of beauty, right?

The men hunt. This is their main, and by the way, favorite pastime. Sometimes some families have chickens or pigs, but they are not as tasty as human meat. The local popular drug is the pulp of the batel nut. Because of him, all the inhabitants of the tribe have red teeth.

Yalis love holidays, they celebrate various events by gathering together in several clans, eating and giving gifts to each other. If you want to please them, give the guys some bright clothes, such as a shirt. Be that as it may, at first glance they are very nice people, in reality they are uncompromising and cruel. Only the most fearless person with a completely absent instinct for self-preservation can go to those parts. So, if you do not want to turn into a delicious lunch, you should think several times before deciding on such a trip.

Guidebooks warn of many dangers that may await travelers in a particular country. But no one warns about cannibalism. Surprise! Cannibalism is still practiced in some tribes such as India, Cambodia and West Africa. And here are 7 countries in which tribes are still not averse to feasting on people.

South East Papua New Guinea

The Korowai tribe is one of the last on Earth to regularly feed on human flesh. They live along the river, and there have been cases when they killed random tourists. And the healers considered warm brains a real delicacy.

Why do they eat people? When someone in a tribe dies for no apparent reason (illness or old age), they consider it a trick of black magic and, in order to save others from harm, they must eat the person.

Interesting fact: In 1961, Michael Rockefeller (son of New York Governor Nelson Rockefeller) disappeared while collecting artifacts about the tribe. His body was never found.

India

The northern Indian Hindu sect, the Aghori, eats volunteers who donate their entrails. However, in 2005, Indian television crews investigated and learned that they also eat decaying corpses from the Ganges (a local tradition) and also steal organs from crematoria.

Why do they eat people?

Aghori believe that this prevents the aging of the body.

Interesting fact: They make really good jewelry out of human bones and skulls.

Fiji

Formerly known as "Cannibal Island". Until now, local residents cannot restore order, and there are still those who eat human flesh, but not all, but only enemy tribes.

Why do they eat people? This is a revenge ritual.

Interesting fact: Fijian cannibals are not animals at all - they eat with cutlery and collect rare items left over from their victims. In the Museum of Archeology and Anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania, you can find examples of such collections.

Brazil

The Wari tribe ate the pious and religious dead until 1960, and after that some government missionaries slaughtered almost the entire tribe. However, the poverty rate in the slums of Olinda has been prohibitively high since 1994, and there are still outbreaks of cannibalism.

Why do they eat people? Poverty and hunger.

Interesting fact: In 2012, there was information from researchers who interviewed local residents, and they claimed to hear voices telling them to kill this or that person.

West Africa

The society of active cannibals Leopard has been eating people since the last century. Until the 80s, human remains were found in the vicinity of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Côte d'Ivoire. The tribe is usually dressed in leopard skins and armed with their fangs.

Why do they eat people? The tribe believes that eating humans makes them stronger and faster.

Interesting fact: They have followers - the Human Alligator community, which is doing this.

Cambodia

Journalist Neil Davis reported that cannibalism in these regions gained momentum during the wars in Southeast Asia (in the 1960s and 1970s). Nowadays, manifestations of cannibalism are occasionally observed.

Why do they eat people? The Cambodian troops had a ritual - to eat the enemy's liver.

Interesting fact: Many people in cities and villages were under the control of the Khmer Rouge, which strictly controlled all food in the area and artificially created famine in the country.

Congo

There are cases of cannibalism in the Congo, and the last ones were recorded not so long ago - in 2012. They reached their maximum during the Congolese civil war (from 1998 to 2002).

Why do they eat people? During the war, the rebel factions believed that enemies should be eaten, especially the heart, which was cooked using special herbs.

Interesting fact: The Congolese still believe that the human heart gives special strength, and if there are people, it will scare away enemies.

Have a nice adventure! :)

Indonesia

Perhaps the most cannibal-dangerous place on Earth is the jungle of the Indonesian part of the island of New Guinea (Irian Jaya) and the island of Kalimantan (Borneo). The jungle of the latter is inhabited by 7-8 million Dayaks, famous skull hunters and cannibals. Their most delicious parts of the body are the head (tongue, cheeks, skin from the chin, the brain extracted through the nasal cavity or ear hole), meat from the thighs and calves, heart, palms. The initiators of the crowded campaigns for skulls among the Dayaks are women.

At the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries, the Indonesian government tried to organize the colonization of the interior of the island by civilized immigrants from Java and Madura. The unfortunate peasant settlers and the soldiers guarding them were massacred and eaten. This is the last significant outbreak of cannibalism in Borneo.

The initiators of campaigns for skulls among the Dayaks are women

A great contribution to the elimination of cannibalism on the islands of Southeast Asia was made by Sukarno, the "father of Indonesian independence", and the military dictator Suharto. But they also failed to greatly improve the situation in Irian Jaya (western part of New Guinea). The Papuan ethnic groups living there (dugum-dani, kapauku, marind-anim, asmat and others), according to missionaries, are not averse to eating people and are distinguished by unprecedented cruelty. They especially like liver with herbs. However, penises, noses, tongues, meat from the thighs will also come off.

But this is all on the western part of the island. What about in the east? In the independent state of Papua New Guinea, there are far fewer cases of cannibalism than in Irian Jaya. Cannibals in this region can still be found on the islands of New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Solomon Islands. If you are tired of taking risks, then Australia and New Zealand are safe places (even though they have Cannibal Bay). There, cannibalism had become obsolete by the end of the 19th century.

Africa

Cases of cannibalism in Africa are associated mainly with the activities of organizations such as "Leopards" and "Alligators". Until the 80s, human remains were found in the vicinity of Sierra Leone, Liberia and Côte d'Ivoire. Leopards are usually dressed in leopard skins and armed with their fangs. Both Leopards and Alligators believe that eating people makes them faster and stronger.

"Leopards" believe that human flesh makes them stronger and faster

Movements are still common in Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Benin, Togo, South Africa, local tribes sometimes practice eating human flesh for ritual purposes. The Mau Mau movement in Kenya (1950-60s) stands apart, covering its sectarian, frankly cannibalistic essence with ultranationalist, anti-European political slogans.

India

The history of human sacrifice is very long in India. What is most curious, the culture of religious sacrifice reached its heyday under the British Raj. At the same time, eating victims was common only in the northeast and south of India. Until the beginning of the 20th century, the inhabitants of the northeastern state of Assam made annual sacrifices to the mother goddess Kali: the boiled lungs of the victims were eaten by yogis, and the aristocracy was content with rice boiled in human blood. Ritual cannibalism in honor of the god of the Earth, Tari Pennu, was developed among the Gonds, a large South Indian people.

Aghori do not disdain corpses from the Ganges

Even in the south of India, there is still a sect of Aghori, spun off from Virashivism. Several thousand people for ritual purposes eat the decomposed corpses of people from the Ganges, as well as the corpses of domestic animals, the remains of burnt corpses. Do not disdain and alive - some specifically want to be eaten.

At the end of such a “positive” article, one has only to quote Andrei Malakhov: “Take care of yourself and your loved ones.” And choose carefully where you are going to travel.

Every living organism needs trace elements, minerals and vitamins to maintain normal life, development and growth. Usually, a person receives all useful substances through food and water.

The main products of a healthy person are fruits, vegetables, animal meat and fish. A person drinks water with various impurities of fruits and plants. However, cases of eating food not only of plant and animal origin, but also of human origin have long been known. Such people are called cannibals, and their mental disorder is called cannibalism.

There are other names for this phenomenon: cannibalism, anthropophagia. If a person eats another person, then he is referred to this type.

What reasons push people to eat their own kind?

This issue is addressed by an article in the online magazine site:

  • Domestic cannibalism is characterized by lack of food and water. When a person gets into conditions where there is no other food than another person, then over time he can cross the line. Often such cases occur on ships that drift in the open oceans and are not able to reach the shores of land.
  • Group cannibalism is often found in remote settlements from developed cities. Until now, peoples live in remote areas and corners of the planet, where people use human meat for food. Either they feed only on it, or use it as an additional source of energy, or use it in rituals. In ancient times, people often sacrificed their fellows. In some tribes, the ritual of eating meat or drinking human blood was used. By the way, the very name "cannibal" comes from the settlement of pre-Columbian times, where people ate human meat.
  • Cannibalism as a sign of a mental disorder, which is often accompanied by delusions or religious beliefs.

Cannibalism among people in the old days often arose due to the religious beliefs that peoples adhered to. People believed that eating human organs or blood would give them youth, strength, and even the ability of the person being eaten. Today, a sick person who believes in such ideas may be persecuted by them, which will force him to kill and eat his victims.

It is often not about eating the whole corpse, but only its individual organs or drinking blood. You can mention vampires who drink human blood, thereby killing their own victims. They are also classified as cannibals.

An anthropophagic sufferer is haunted by delusional ideas that by eating specific human organs or drinking the blood of his own kind, he is healed, becomes stronger, receives divine forgiveness, or acquires the knowledge and skills of his victim. Often these ideas are of a religious nature. A person may turn out to be a believer, worshiping pagan gods.

sexual cannibalism

One form of sexual perversion today is cannibalism. People eat their sexual partners, or simply get excited at the sight of human organs, drinking blood. The promotion of the sexual image of vampires has led to the fact that people began to engage in bloodletting during intercourse, which often ends in death. Sexual fetishism often manifests itself in sexual crimes of a serial nature.

We are talking about criminal actions when a person, out of necessity (due to hunger) or because of mental illness, resorts to killing people or desecrating corpses in order to satisfy their crazy ideas. Often this type of action is serial in nature, since a person over and over again requires the satisfaction of his delusional ideas through the commission of cannibal actions.
