When building a house or renovating an apartment, it is not always advisable to install expensive types of skirting boards in utility rooms, such as a utility room or basement. In these rooms, for the sake of saving the budget, it would be wiser, instead of installing expensive skirting boards, to make concrete skirting boards. The production of a concrete plinth does not require significant cash outlays, and even an untrained worker can install it. For quick and high-quality installation of a concrete skirting board, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the following step by step instructions. It is important to understand that special material protection is required.

Step #1. Preparing consumables.

To make a plinth from concrete, you need to buy sand and cement from the construction market, in a ratio of one to three. That is, if you purchased one bag of cement, then you will need to buy three bags of sand for it.

If you do not want to waste time calculating proportions or are not sure about the quality of the cement being sold, then you can purchase a ready-made building mixture. In terms of cost, it will be more expensive than just buying cement with sand, but ready-made factory mixes are much more convenient and better in work than a hand-made mortar.

Step #2. Tool preparation.

To install a concrete plinth, you need to get a plinth template. Usually it looks like a plaster bevel, but instead of a smooth surface, it has a corrugated shape in the form of a plinth, with corners beveled at forty-five degrees. The template acts as a movable formwork, which gives the form of a plinth to the cement mortar. You can buy a template in hardware stores by choosing the shape you like.

Also take care of the presence of a spatula, trough or basin, trowel and water tank, all this will be needed in the process of making the solution.

Step #3. Mounting.

Remember that the installation of a concrete plinth in no case should be carried out on wooden surfaces and walls with wallpaper, installation on floors covered with linoleum is also not recommended. The ideal option for installing a concrete plinth is to install it on a concrete floor or on a ceramic tile surface.

To install the baseboard, make a cement mortar in a ratio of three to one. Next, moisten the installation site with water and, using a trowel or spatula, place the finished mortar in the joint between the floor and the wall. Take the template and run it over the solution. Use a spatula to remove excess mortar that has come out from under the template. Repeat this procedure around the entire perimeter of the room. Corner joints of the skirting board should be drawn out using the bevels on the template, as they are specifically designed for this. To prevent the formation of voids and depressions in the baseboard, put the solution in sufficient quantity.

Step number 4. Painting.

After the mortar dries, inspect the baseboard for cracks. If cracks are present, cover them with an additionally made mixture and wait for it to dry. After the skirting board has completely hardened, paint the skirting board with emulsion or paint.

There is another option for staining concrete skirting boards, it consists in adding a dye directly during the manufacture of the mortar. Which option is more convenient for you, decide for yourself.

Concrete plinths are significantly inferior in aesthetic beauty to their wooden or plastic counterparts. But due to their low cost and ease of installation, they are quite suitable for installation in outbuildings, garages and basements.

Painting skirting boards will advantageously complement the design of the room if you choose the right color. During this process, in addition to your own preferences, you should focus on the height of the ceilings, the footage of the room, the interior of the room and the lighting. We will talk about all the intricacies of the painting process in this article.

  1. The skirting board can be painted in a color similar to that of the floor or ceiling. This technique will make it possible to visually enlarge the room.
  2. In a room with low ceilings for skirting boards, it is recommended to choose a color that is close in tone to the wall decoration.
  3. A modern design technique is painting a baguette to match the shade of doors or doorways.
  4. AT recent times the trend of painting skirting boards in contrasting colors is also gaining popularity. This is a rather bold experiment, but with correct selection shades the interior of the room will acquire originality.
  5. For lovers non-standard solutions skirting boards bright colors. But in this case, the interior should contain elements of similar shades: sofa cushions, images at battles, curtains. Also, this technique should be used in spacious rooms with good lighting, since bright skirting boards visually reduce the footage.

Painting foam skirting boards

Often the feasibility of staining these products is questionable. They are predominantly produced in white colors. And if you have a ceiling of the same color, then a logical question arises: why paint the baguette at all? But there is a need for this. Styrofoam is a material with a loose structure. And on the skirting board made from it, small scratches will form, which are quite noticeable in good light.
In addition, after a certain period of time, the baguette will darken or yellowness will appear on it. Painting will prevent these unpleasant moments, save appearance and the structure of the plinth, as well as to extend its service life. In addition, caring for a painted baguette is much easier. To remove dirt from it, you just need to wipe the surface with a damp cloth.
You can paint the skirting board before and after installation. Each option has its own characteristics:

  1. When painting before installation, pre-cut baguettes of the required size, then fit them in the corners. But after installation, it will be necessary to seal the joints. During this procedure, there is a possibility of surface damage.
  2. Painting after installation is a more time-consuming process, but allows you to get a neat result. If it is planned to paint the baguettes and the ceiling in an identical color, experts recommend doing this at the same time before finishing the walls. If it is necessary to treat the baseboard with a primer, it is better to do this before installation.

The end result depends not only on correct sequence works, but also on the applied paint. Foam-based skirting boards must not come into contact with paints containing solvents. Paint must be chosen exclusively on a water basis. In this case, fit:

  • acrylic;
  • water-dispersion;
  • latex formulations.

If painting is carried out before installation, then you can use a spray can. This will speed up the workflow and avoid streaks and streaks. If it was not possible to find the paint of the required color on sale, you can add a color scheme of the desired shade to the white paint.
For coloring you will need:

  • colorful composition;
  • small brush;
  • capacity;
  • wide spatula.

The painting process is carried out in the following sequence of actions:

  1. Before painting, you need to putty the joint area. To do this, a small amount of plaster is applied to the spatula, after which the joint is processed from top to bottom. Excess putty is removed with a damp sponge.
  2. When the composition dries, you need to process the joints with fine-grained sandpaper to remove irregularities.
  3. If the painting of ceiling plinths is carried out before they are installed or on an unfinished surface, then a can can be used for work.
  4. If the floor and walls are already covered with finishing material, masking tape must be glued along the baguettes. This will help prevent paint from getting onto the finish.
  5. If the adhesive tape is stuck on the wallpaper during the peeling process, the decorative surface may be damaged. To avoid this, another material should be used as a protective coating. For example, cardboard, which, when painting, must be applied to the treated area.
  6. Painting should be carried out in a room with a low level of humidity, into which drafts and direct sunlight do not penetrate. The area to be treated must be covered with paper.
  7. Coloring is done with light movements along the baguette. It is necessary to ensure that there are no stains or marks from the brush on the surface.
  8. If a spray can is used for staining, it should be kept at a distance of 30 cm from the baguette. If this requirement is not observed, it will not be possible to avoid drips.
  9. After completion of work, it is necessary to wait for the complete drying of the paint composition. The time required for this is indicated on the package.

If the paint is applied to the plinth after its installation, the work is performed in the following order:

  1. Before starting work, the surface should be cleaned of dust and dirt.
  2. Further, adhesive tape is glued on both sides of the baguette to protect the walls and ceiling from paint. As in the previous case, cardboard can be used for this purpose.
  3. First, one section of the plinth is completely processed, then you can move on to another.
  4. So the colorful composition is applied to the entire surface of the baguette. The adhesive tape can be peeled off after the paint has dried.
  5. If, after finishing work, joints are visible, another layer of the composition should be applied.

Painting the floor skirting board

Floor baguettes are made of MDF (plywood) and natural wood. The main advantage of these materials is environmental safety. MDF skirting boards consist of plywood, which is the main layer in the product, and dye-impregnated paper with a protective coating. Due to the presence of this surface layer, the baguette retains its color under the influence of sun rays. Skirting boards made of this material do not require special care. These products are available in two colors: light gray and white.

For work you will need:

  • MDF baguettes;
  • primer composition;
  • dye;
  • rubber gloves;
  • paint brush;
  • rags;
  • polyethylene film;
  • capacity.

You can paint the baguette both before installation and after. If the paint is applied to the installed baseboard, then the process has the following features:

  1. The walls and floor are pre-pasted with adhesive tape for painting works or covered with paper.
  2. Initially, the surface of the product should be sanded, for this it is treated with fine-grained sandpaper.
  3. Next, a primer mixture is applied to the plinth in two layers.
  4. Between applying layers, you need to take a break so that the primer dries.
  5. Re-coating will provide a flat and perfectly smooth surface, which will greatly simplify the application of the paint composition.

For work, a regular paint brush is suitable. When choosing its size, the width of the plinth should be taken into account. A thin baguette is painted with a narrow brush, for a wide product you need to pick up a brush bigger size. MDF skirting boards are painted with water-based paints, as they do not have an unpleasant odor and dry quickly.

If you plan to paint an uninstalled baguette, the work is done as follows:

  1. Before starting the work process, the floor surface is covered with a film.
  2. The paint is applied in a thin layer on the outer side of the product.
  3. There is no need to paint the baguette on the inside.
  4. After the first layer has dried, the plinth is treated with a coloring compound again.
  5. If paint gets on an unprotected surface, it should be removed immediately with a damp cloth. A spray can is also suitable for coloring. On the installed plinth, the coloring composition is applied only with a brush.

Painting of wooden skirting boards is carried out in several layers:

  1. Previously, the product is covered with a soil mixture.
  2. The brush should be placed parallel to the floor surface.
  3. If the floor covering and the baseboard are being painted at the same time, the baguette should be painted first.
  4. The coloring composition is applied in a uniform thin layer, after it dries, the procedure is repeated.
  5. Do not apply a thick layer, as it will subsequently swell and deform.

A wooden floor plinth for painting can be covered with a stain - a special liquid that will give the material the desired shade and emphasize its aesthetic qualities. Morilki are divided into:

  • alcohol;
  • oil;
  • aqueous liquids.

Any kind of plinth is suitable for plinth. These substances are sold in powder form, before use they must be diluted with water. The saturation of the shade depends on the amount of powder.
The liquid can be applied with a brush or a spray bottle. The stain is applied in two ways. During operation, excess liquid can be removed, or partially or completely left. Excess funds are left in the event that the skirting board needs to be given a darker shade. The liquid is applied along the fibers. Drying time depends on the type of stain. Oily liquids dry throughout the day, solvent-based or water-based products - within 2-3 hours.

Plinth polyurethane: painting

Polyurethane is a lightweight yet durable material. Due to its environmental safety, it can be used in any room. The period of operation of this material is 30 years. Skirting boards made on its basis have the following advantages:

  1. They do not change appearance over time.
  2. Resistant to moisture, UV and temperature extremes.
  3. Also, cracks do not form on their surface.
  4. Due to their high elasticity, such baguettes can be used to form rounded surfaces.
  5. Another advantage is their wide variety of patterns and colors.

Polyurethane baguettes are produced for decorating joints between walls and ceilings, between floors and walls, as well as for decorating a ceiling surface. They are divided into two types:

  • patterned;
  • smooth.

Products with a pattern are very similar to gypsum stucco, so these baguettes are widely used to create interiors in such styles as Empire, Rococo, Art Nouveau and Baroque. Baguettes are also divided into types according to the angle that is formed after installation. It can be 30°, 45° or 60°.

Due to the resistance of these products to moisture, they can be installed in rooms with a high level of humidity. The plinth in this case will help to solve not only a decorative problem, but also prevent the appearance of fungi and mold. Since polyurethane is immune to low temperatures, skirting boards can be installed in unheated rooms. And the ability of the material to maintain its performance properties under conditions high temperature allows the use of skirting boards made on its basis in kitchens.

For painting baguettes made of polyurethane are used different kinds colorful compositions. With the help of glazes (tinting agents), the product can be given a different texture. Processing with these compositions allows you to achieve the effect of gold, metal, stone, wood. Polyurethane foam material is also painted with water-based or acrylic paints.
In addition, there is a significant variety of decorative colorful products in aerosol packages on sale. When using them, the following rules should be observed:

  1. The plinth should be initially treated with dispersion waterproof paint.
  2. For finishing use a brush or spray gun.
  3. Painting should be started within 24 hours after installation.
  4. The paint should be applied in several layers, each of which should dry well and only after that you can continue to work.

Conclusion

Painting skirting boards will give them a more aesthetic appearance, strengthen the structure and fit these products into the interior of the room. The staining process is quite simple and does not require qualified training. But in order to obtain a high-quality result, in the course of the work, it is necessary to follow a certain sequence of actions and the rules for applying the paint composition.

Below is the production technology of 4 finishing works, used in the decoration of the building.

7.1. Improved wall plastering with cement mortar on stone

1. Scope of work:

1. Stuffing strips plaster mesh at the points of contact.

2. Application of the solution on the surface with leveling and grouting of the covering layer.

3. Plastering slopes of heating niches.

4. Coating with a solution of boxes, platbands and skirting boards.

Surface plastering is carried out by applying plaster compositions in the following sequence:

With improved plaster:

a) spraying with conventional solutions;

b) applying a layer of soil from conventional solutions, followed by its leveling and alignment;

c) cutting corners, husks, cuts;

d) cutting of ceiling rusts;

e) application of a covering layer with subsequent grouting.

Surface preparation for plastering

Surface preparation for plastering consists in cleaning the surface of plasters that have lost their adhesion and astringent properties, brick destruction products, old exfoliated paint layers, dust and dirt. Cleaning methods and means depend on the chemical composition of the material to be cleaned, the nature of the dirt and deposits. Requirements for the quality of cleaning are determined by the type of finish being designed.

Dedusting surfaces before applying each layer of primer or plaster compositions. If necessary, notches should be made on the surface.

The quality of surface preparation for plastering depends on the adhesion (adhesion) of the plaster coating to the base. For interior decoration of ceilings, walls and partitions, this indicator, according to Table 8 of SNiP 3.04.01-87, must be at least 0.1 MPa.

Grease, bitumen and oil stains (traces of grease), efflorescence, protruding fittings, rust are not allowed on the surfaces to be plastered. The surfaces of the walls are cleaned from the influx of mortar, cutting them down with scrapers and plaster hammers, after which the surface is cleaned of dust with a rag.

Methods for applying and processing layers of plaster.

Improved plaster is performed by grade without additional corrections. Stamps are more often arranged “under the cord”, i.e. without being strictly vertical. After preparing the surface, marks and beacons are arranged. Gypsum dough or mortar is smeared on each driven nail, its front side is leveled at the level of the nail head and cut off from the sides. Stamps are made in order to establish a rule on them, which is fixed with plaster, nails or clamps. Under the rule, gypsum or mortar is applied. After the gypsum or mortar has set, the rule is removed by applying light blows to it with a hammer, after which a strip of mortar, called a beacon, remains on the wall. Two lighthouses are made in the corners to form husks. After plastering the upper part of the walls, a padu is made using a conventional or shaped trowel.

The work can be done this way. The top of the walls is plastered to scaffolding, the walls are covered, smoothed and overwritten. Then the lower parts of the walls are plastered. In the process of plastering, the work is checked, correcting inaccuracies. The deviation of the width of the plastered slope from the design should be no more than 3 mm. To avoid large deviations on the walls with window openings, the walls are hung, lighthouses are arranged, a rule is applied to them, a distance equal to the width of the slope is measured from it, and window boxes are strengthened at this distance. This measure ensures the exact width of the slopes. The top of the boxes on one wall should be level.

The last, final operation on the device of the floor is the installation of a plinth - a difficult element of the interior that performs certain functional and aesthetic tasks. It closes the compensation groove between the floor and walls, if necessary, masks the unevenness of the floor and walls near their junction, under it you can hide additional wires and cables. Thanks to the skirting board, it is possible to ensure color matching between floor and walls, floor and doors, floor and furniture. It can interact in color and shape with wall coverings and fabrics in the interior. The width of the plinth is often chosen depending on the height of the room and doorways. The presence of chamfers and relief on the plinth sometimes creates a harmonious transition to the relief of the walls or the pattern of the floor covering.

Skirting boards are made of solid wood, veneered (veneered) wood, plastic or molded cardboard, laminated, pasted over with a decorative film. If desired, you can keep the natural color of the plinth, tint or paint it in any color. It can be straight or angled, single or multi-component, it can be nailed, attached with screws or special elements. Various modifications of skirting boards and fillets are shown in fig. 61, 62.

In addition to conventional skirting boards, some companies, such as Parador, make snap-on skirting boards. Thanks to this design, skirting boards are easy to install and remove (for example, when changing wallpaper or painting walls), and the geometry of their section allows you to lay behind them electrical cables(Fig. 63).

This reduces the cost of laying electrical networks (no need to ditch the walls) and provides convenient access to the wires. In addition to straight skirting boards, curly modifications are also made for edging columns or junction of a floor with a wall with an arcuate surface.

To hide inconspicuous saw cuts and inaccurate corner joints, various plastic plugs are used for the inner and outer corners (Fig. 64),

and in order to close the end cut of the plinth, for example, at door frames, elegant caps (Fig. 65), painted in aluminum, are used, which are simply inserted along the contour of the plinth cut. Decals with matching decors provide a consistent style.

When designing interiors, one often has to deal with the task of creating combined floor coverings, in which, for example, parquet is combined with natural stone, porcelain stoneware, and ceramic tiles. Joining materials that have significantly different expansion rates with changing climatic conditions, end-to-end with a tree is unacceptable. A gap of about 4 mm is left between the border of the parquet and other material, which is filled with an elastic sealant or a floor sheet cork. Sometimes this gap is covered with a metal transition. These transitions may be different shape and, if necessary, also be used to match uneven floor levels in rooms or at boundaries different types floor coverings.

Aluminum transitional sills "Parador", capable of withstanding heavy loads, provide smooth transition between separate rooms with different materials, coatings, leveling differences from 3 to 18 mm (Fig. 66). By color, the sills are made to look like silver, gold or bronze.

"Parador", capable of withstanding heavy loads, provide a smooth transition between individual rooms with different materials, coatings, leveling differences from 3 to 18 mm (Fig. 66).

By color, the sills are made to look like silver, gold or bronze.

To hide the gap between floor coverings of the same height, special transition thresholds are used (Fig. 67), and a finishing profile is used to accurately connect the floor covering with the threshold and other elevations (Fig. 68).

From an array of various types of wood, CHERS manufactures various profiled and veneered skirting boards, as well as overlays, frames, moldings-sills (Fig. 69, 1-15).

When installing coatings made of linoleum and plastic tiles, PVC skirting boards are glued to the wall or partitions. The surface of the walls to which the plinth will be glued is thoroughly cleaned of wallpaper, uncured paints and other contaminants. The back side of the plinth is roughened with sandpaper. At the ends, cut to size, the skirting boards are cut to the mustache with a stupa and a hacksaw.

After such preparation, the back side of the plinth is lubricated with a flat brush with a thin layer of quick-drying glue 88N or KN-2 (KN-3) and allowed to dry for 10-15 minutes. When the first layer of glue dries, the surface is again covered with glue and the baseboard is left to partially dry the adhesive layer for 5-10 minutes. After that, the plinth is applied to the wall, pressed tightly and rubbed with a clean rag. When installing between the plinth and the floor surface, a gap of 1-1.5 mm is left to prevent deformation of the floor covering during temperature changes in the room.

Wooden baseboards are nailed to pre-installed plugs in the wall.

When installing a monolithic mosaic coating, skirting boards can be made on site using a template lath by stuffing in the following way. After 2-3 days. after laying the coating, they proceed to the installation of skirting boards - decorative rollers framing the floor along the perimeter of the walls. The location of the future plinth is moistened, installed and loaded with a curly template rail. Then, a mosaic mortar is laid with a trowel in the gap between the wall and the rail. Having filled the gap to half the height of the template rail, it is compacted with a trowel edge, after which the gap is filled to the upper edge of the template, compacted again, excess mortar is removed and the surface is smoothed with a clean trowel.

After the mortar has set, the templates are removed, small shells and chips on the surface of the plinth are sealed with a solution, and the finished plinth is covered with a moistened cloth until the mortar has set.

Finished skirting boards should not have protrusions or other defects visible from a distance of 3 m.

Quite often, repairs in the room are completed with the installation and painting of skirting boards. The plinth allows you to finalize the room and give it a certain appeal. There are several options for skirting boards, installed both on the floor and on the ceiling. We will learn more about what paint to paint the plinth and the features of this process.

Skirting board for painting: types of floor skirting boards

The plinth plays the role of not only an aesthetic element of the room, it also performs a certain functional load. So, installing a wooden floor on the floor requires an expansion gap in the arrangement, which is hidden behind the plinth. The absence of this gap leads to deformation of the floor covering.

With the help of a plinth, it is possible to hide certain communications that spoil the appearance of the room. The plinth is a transitional element from the ceiling to the walls and from the walls to the floor, it creates a certain harmony of color.

There are many options for floor skirting boards, which vary in shape, color and material.

The first version of the floor plinth is the most popular and ancient. For its manufacture, natural wood is used. There are many options for wooden skirting boards, of various price categories, quality and breed. A wooden skirting board involves painting it in a certain color or varnishing. Periodically, the wooden plinth is painted during operation.

Plinth veneered type - has a wooden base and a decorative coating. To protect the veneer, its surface is covered with a melamine film. Veneered plinth is less expensive than wood, but it is resistant to moisture and temperature fluctuations.

The easiest plinth to maintain and install, made of plastic. It is suitable for carpet, laminate and linoleum. Most plastic skirting boards resemble wood in texture, but have higher performance characteristics. Such skirting boards are distinguished by the presence of special channels inside which you can hide the wires.

MDF plinth is installed on a flat wall, consists of a special bar, which has high mechanical strength. A paper base is applied to the surface of the plank, which forms the color and texture of the plinth. This version of the skirting board is environmentally friendly, resistant to temperature extremes, and hygienic.

Aluminum skirting boards are rarely used in residential areas. Its application is relevant in industrial establishments. This version of the skirting board is highly durable, hygienic and has a long service life.

The polyurethane version of the floor plinth is widespread. It is not afraid of moisture, so it is great for kitchens and bathrooms.

The polyurethane flexible paintable skirting board has good performance characteristics and is easy to install indoors, repeating its shape. Due to the flexibility of the polyurethane skirting board, it is able to hide the largest wall irregularities. In addition, the products are characterized by the presence of grooves inside which wires are installed. Among the advantages of a flexible plinth for painting, we note:

  • light weight of the product;
  • simple and fast installation;
  • resistance to mechanical stress;
  • resistance to moisture and temperature fluctuations;
  • use in rooms of various purposes: both in the bathroom and in the bedroom;
  • the possibility of self-coloring.

Floor plinth for painting: floor plinth coloring technology

Not every of the above options for floor plinths is suitable for painting. Some models are sold ready for installation and do not require additional finishing.

Most often, skirting boards from the fine fraction of wood are used indoors; such products are sold both painted and unpainted. Buying a skirting board for painting has a lot of advantages, such as:

  • perfect surface smoothness;
  • the presence of a primer layer, which provides additional protection for the skirting board;
  • high level of permanent strength;
  • the possibility of repainting the product in the desired color;
  • ease of installation;
  • masking the joint between the floor and the wall.

The process of painting a skirting board is quite complex and begins with choosing the right color. When choosing the color of the baseboard, consider the color of the floor and walls, the shade of the furniture in the room, the size of the room, the design, the main and additional lighting.

1. Paint the baseboard to match the ceiling or floor. With the help of this move, it is possible to increase the volume of the room.

2. If the room has low walls, then the plinth should be painted to match the wall, so the walls will appear higher.

3. Another option is to paint the plinth in the color of the door frame, thus, it is possible to harmoniously connect them together.

4. If light and discreet colors are used in the decoration of the room, then you can paint the plinth in a contrasting and bright color. Thus, it is possible to achieve an emphasis on this element.

For the manufacture of wooden MDF plinth for painting, plywood and a layer of paper are used. The presence of a melamine coating protects the baseboard from moisture and other irritants. This version of the plinth is easy to install and maintain. There are options for MDF plinth with a pattern already applied or for painting.

There are two options for MDF plinth for painting:

  • light gray;
  • plinth white for painting.

We offer you to get acquainted with the technology of applying paint on MDF floor plinths:

1. The skirting board is painted only after installation work. In order to prevent the coloring composition from getting on other surfaces, paste over them with masking tape.

2. Before painting the skirting board, sand it with fine grit sandpaper. Thus, pile will not rise on the surface of the panel.

4. To paint the baseboard, use a standard brush, the size of which directly determines the size of the baseboard.

When choosing a coloring composition for skirting boards, pay attention to its components. For interior work, we recommend giving preference to latex, water-dispersion or acrylic-based paint. After applying the primer to the surface of the plinth, proceed to its coloring. To complete the work, you will need:

  • directly plinth;
  • paints;
  • gloves
  • brushes;
  • polyethylene films;
  • water containers.

Install a polyethylene film on the floor. Put on gloves and start painting the baseboard. Work carefully, apply the paint evenly, in thin layers. Wait for the first layer of the coloring composition to dry, and repeat the above steps again.

Painted wooden plinth - painting technology

For the construction of wooden skirting boards, a wood massif is used. This material differs in the high durability, environmental safety and long term of operation. Before starting work, a primer is also applied to the wooden plinth in two layers. It will reduce paint consumption and increase the adhesion between the wood and the coloring composition.

With simultaneous staining of both the wooden floor and the plinth. First it is recommended to paint the baseboards, and then the floor. During the work process, make sure that the paint does not drip onto the floor.

In order to avoid the appearance of streaks, a spatula is placed under the extreme part of the plinth, and staining is done with a narrow brush.

If the floor will not be painted, it is recommended to protect it and the walls with masking tape. To receive you need to quality coating, which will serve you for many years, apply paint on the baseboard in a thin and even layer. Coloring large quantity paint will cause swelling and deformation of the coating. After applying each coat of paint, wait for it to dry completely before applying the next one.

Painting a wooden skirting board is the best solution for cases when it is not possible to find a skirting board of the desired tone.

What paint to paint the plinth: reasons for painting the plinth

Ceiling skirting boards are produced most often in a light color, if there is a light ceiling in the room, then they harmonize quite well with it. Therefore, there are supporters of the opinion that the skirting board for the ceiling on a foam, polystyrene or polyurethane basis does not need to be painted.

However, these skirting options need to be painted, even White color, there are many reasons for this. Let's get acquainted with some of them:

  • on these versions of skirting boards, quite often there are small defects in the form of dents, scratches, which become noticeable in daylight, coloring can correct this defect;
  • the foam has a loose structure that is translucent, its coloring gives the baseboard greater solidity and improves its appearance;
  • dust accumulates better on unpainted material, and over time it turns yellow;
  • to clean painted skirting boards, it is enough to wash them with a damp cloth;
  • in addition, it is with the help of paint that it is possible to hide the corner joints between the skirting boards;
  • skirting boards made of wood are also painted, the paint provides them with protection and external factors and improves the service life;
  • with the help of paint it is possible to create a plinth of any shade that is in harmony with the room.

More convenient is the process of painting the plinth in an unspecified form. However, in this case, after the installation of the skirting boards, the joints between them will remain visible. Yes, and there is a risk of contamination of the plinth during installation work. Therefore, most often the skirting boards are painted after they are mounted on the wall.

If the color of the skirting board and the ceiling match, they are painted at the same time. At the same time, it is better to do it after doing final finishing walls in the room. Before applying the coloring composition to the surface of the ceiling plinth, it is recommended to coat it with a primer. It can also be applied before fixing the skirting boards on the wall.

A rather important issue is the choice of coloring composition for finishing the plinth. It is necessary to paint the baseboard for painting with water-based paint. Styrofoam, polyurethane - destroys alcohol, solvents such as white spirit and other aggressive substances.

Therefore, for painting the skirting board, it is recommended to use paints that have an acrylic, latex or water base. If the skirting board is still painted before its installation, then it is allowed to use paint in a spray can. Thus, it is possible to speed up the workflow. If you need paint of a certain color, but could not find it in the store, then you will have to tint the coloring composition yourself.

How to paint foam baseboard

Before painting the ceiling plinth, it is necessary to prepare the surface for work. Eliminate defects between the connected parts in the corners, get rid of scratches and dents.

In general, before you start applying paint to the baseboards, follow these steps:

1. Stock up on a sponge or soft cloth, a container of water and a rubber spatula. Using a spatula, spread the putty at the junction of two skirting boards or at the place of defects on the surface of the skirting board.

2. To remove excess putty, use a sponge dampened with water. If there are joints between the baseboard and the wall, also seal them with a putty solution.

3. Wait for the putty to dry completely, sand the surface with special tools.

4. After that, proceed to the staining of the skirting boards.

The process of painting the baseboard is quite simple, if you follow all the technological aspects of its implementation. The nature of the work is determined by the stage of painting, whether this process is the final one in the decoration of the room, or after that wallpaper will be glued to the wall. At the initial stage of work, it is necessary to clean the plinth from dirt and apply a primer layer on it.

If the baseboard is painted before finishing work on the ceiling and walls, then in this case, it is preferable to use a spray can. The work will be faster and take less time. If the plinth is painted after finishing the walls, then a masking tape is installed on the wall and on the ceiling, if necessary, to prevent paint from getting on them.

If, however, the paint got on the wallpaper, then to remove it, you must use a damp cloth or sponge. If you can’t stick masking tape on the wallpaper, then use the suggested option for painting skirting boards below. Take a wide trowel and place it against the wall side of the baseboard. Paint the skirting board sections gradually, moving the spatula. After covering the baseboard with paint for the first time, wait for it to dry completely and repeat the process one or two more times.
